Prepare children to be agents of positive change – Islamic scholar

Malam Muhammad Usamatu-Abbas

An Islamic scholar, Malam Muhammad Usamatu-Abbas, says parents should not relent in providing proper training for their children to prepare them to serve as agents of positive change in the society.

Usamatu-Abbas gave the advice during a lecture organised ahead of the month of Ramadan, on Saturday in Katsina.

The lecture, with the theme ‘Challenges of Moral upbringing in the 21st century’, was organised by the Walin Hausa Foundation, FRCN Companion FM, NTA Katsina, and Al-Qalam University.

He particularly enjoined Muslims on the importance of providing strong foundation on Islamic knowledge to their children to make them morally upright and good citizens.

Usamatu-Abbas, who is the Chief Imam of Abubakar Sadiq Juma’at mosque Filin Samji, said the current challenges in the country stemmed partly from society’s deviation from the moral compass.

“The future of any society is expected to be realised when the youths are provided with the proper training as agents of change,” he added.

Usamatu-Abbas said though the process of instilling good morals in the youths was not easy, doing so was necessary in order to have a better society.

He pointed out that Islam has provided all the necessary moral values and direction for a good society which parents should explore and instill in their children.

“If Muslims can utilise Islamic teachings, it will be a smooth way for their progress on earth and the Hereafter,” he added.

Chairman of the organising committee, Malam Babangida Abba said the choice of the theme was predicated on the present challenges of immorality in the society.

“It has become necessary for all stakeholders to join hands towards salvaging the country from the current moral decadence,” he said.

He urged parents and scholars not to relent in preaching good morals and setting good examples for the youth and others to follow.
