Police, ministry raid brothel in Anambra, operator absconds with teenage girls

Must Read

The fight against underage prostitution in Anambra State has become more intense as the state Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, in collaboration with the state police command, raided another brothel, camping girls and using them for prostitution.

This is in reaction to a viral video making the rounds on social media since Friday regarding a brothel run by a woman popularly called “Madam Venza,” which was said to be used for camping underage girls for prostitution and child trafficking purposes.

Although the team of government officials and security operatives arrived at the facility, located at Umuagu Umuogali in Oba, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday, no one was on the ground as all occupants had fled.

Our correspondent gathered that operators of the brothel, sensing that the viral video circulating online would ignite reactions from security operatives, gathered the girls and other workers and absconded into an unknown location.

But the commissioner and her team, who had stormed the brothel in search of the girls, met everywhere, including doors and windows wide open.

Reacting to the development after raiding the brothel, Obinabo stressed the relentless resolve in the fight against underage prostitution in Anambra while disclosing that measures have been put in place to capture the operators of the said brothel and rescue the girls in her shelter.

She lamented the high rate of child prostitution, trafficking, and sexual slavery in the state and assured that the state government will not relent until such acts are reduced to the barest minimum.

Although, with the help of the police and vigilantes, we were not able to apprehend the suspect, measures have been put in place to capture her and rescue the girls in her shelter.

“The high rate of child prostitution, trafficking, and sexual slavery in the state is a worrisome development, the state government will not relent until such acts are reduced to the barest minimum,” she added.
