NFF in talks with Eagles’ coach Peseiro

Must Read

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has begun contract talks with Jose Peseiro, the national team’s coach.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau confirmed this on Wednesday.

He said, “His contract expired in July, and we’re now talking to him and his lawyers. Peseiro had a one-year deal.

Gusau stated that the talks were stalled due to the postponement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, on which the contract was predicated.

The competition will take place in the months of January and February. Nigeria qualified with one game to spare, thanks to Peseiro’s leadership.

Sources say the NFF wants Peseiro to accept a significant pay drop in a new contract that will last at least until the end of the competition in Ivory Coast.

“We hope to conclude very soon, and a decision will be made based on the technical committee’s recommendations,” Gusau added.

The Super Eagles finish their qualifying campaign on September 10 at home against Sao Tome & Principe.

Randy Waldrum’s contract as coach of the country’s women’s team expired as well, according to Gusau, after he led them to the Round of 16 in the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

He added that a decision on Waldrum will have to be made soon, as the squad will begin their qualification campaign for the 2024 Paris Olympics next month.
