music educator, Babatunde Shosanya, has advised artistes to get basic education and set realistic goals before pursuing music careers.

Speaking in an interview with , Shosanya said, “Artistes should set realistic goals before pursuing a music career; otherwise, they would be frustrated out of the industry. An artiste must have a basic education.

“In addition, they should have lawyers. One can have a good voice and write one’s song. However, it is important to have a manager, because one cannot manage oneself as an entertainer.”

Speaking on some of the challenges he has faced in the course of his job, the music educator, who is currently studying for a PhD in Music, said, “Teaching is an amazing job. It is a profession that requires patience, dedication, empathy and perseverance.

“However, some challenges I have faced as a music director are the attitude of certain students, in addition to understanding the learning styles of different students. Understanding changing technology, most importantly the use of AI is also a challenge.

“Sometimes, there is also the challenge of distance from my house to the churches where I play. Lastly, there is the challenge of inadequate salary.”

The educator who prides himself on being a singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido’s number one fan noted that one of the things he loves the most about artiste was the fact that he studied music at the university.

“As far as I’m concerned, a day without listening to Davido is a wasted one,” he added.

This was even as he urged singers to get familiar with at least one musical instrument, whether violin, drum, saxophone, trumpet or piano.
