Chichi Nworah, the producer of the popular movie series, ‘, has confirmed that plans for a sequel to the series are underway.
In an interview with Nworah stated that the scripting and development for Shanty Town 2 was ongoing, though shooting had yet to begin.
When asked about the proposed release date for the movie, Nworah said, “For now, I don’t know the time. It is the platform that schedules time. We are still in scripting and development stage. We have not started shooting yet.”
Nworah had teamed up with Xavier Ighorodje to create the first part of the series, which premiered to critical acclaim on Netflix on January 20, 2023.
The six-part action thriller featured Nollywood stars such as Chidi Mokeme, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ini Edo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Toyin Abraham, Nancy Isime, and Sola Sobowale.
Describing the series as one of her most successful projects, Nworah said , “When Netflix published its streaming hours, Shanty Town was second in Africa and number one in Nigeria in the category of movies that did very well in their first six months. From January to June 2023, the series had over 27 million views. The streaming platform had never recorded such views for a Nigerian series before.”
She added that while producing the series, she was involved in all aspects, so as to garner knowledge about the process, and be able to correct anyone lacking in any area.
