Why we passed 40 bills in four years – Taraba Speaker

Must Read

The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Kizito Bonzena, on Wednesday, said no fewer than 40 bills were passed in the last four years to facilitate good governance and development in the state.

Speaking during the valedictory session to end the 9th Assembly of the house in the Jalingo area of the state, Bonzena explained that the bills were processed in the best interest of Taraba residents.

Bonzena had earlier read a message of proclamation for the dissolution of the 9th Assembly from the governor of the state, Dr Agbu Kefas, as stipulated in Section 105 (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He thanked members for their cooperation, noting that both members understood they were in the house for the common interest of developing the state.

Bonzena said, “I want to announce here that during the over 700 sittings of the Taraba State 9th Assembly, we processed 40 bills that are for the interest and good governance of the state.

“Key among the bills included; the Taraba State Appropriation Law No.01 of 2019; Taraba State Kidnapping and Abduction Prohibition (Amendment) Law No. 2 of 2019; the Taraba State Political and Public Office Holders (Remuneration and Other Benefits) (Amendment No.4) Law, No. 5 of 2019.

“Others included the Taraba State Contributory Health Insurance Agency Law, No. 6 of 2019, and the Taraba State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jalingo (Establishment) Law No. 01 of 2022, among others.”

Our correspondent reports that only four out of the 24 members of the state House of Assembly would be part of the 10th Assembly slated to commence on Friday, June 2.
