Why I dress like a woman in skits – Samspedy

Must Read

A skit maker, Samuel Asubiojo, aka Samspedy, has said he dresses like a woman in his skits to elicit laughter. He added that he started wearing his mother’s wigs and lipstick at a very young age to mimic her.

In an interview with , he said, “I started acting like a female when I was young. I would just wear my mum’s wig and lipstick, just to make my family members laugh. I would mimic my mum in the presence of everyone to elicit laughter. So, it has always been a part of me.

“The idea of wearing a woman’s dress in my skits is just to make people laugh, and not to show women how they are meant to behave.”

The content creator, who portrays the characters—Mama Ojo, Papa Ojo and Ojo— admitted that it would be difficult for him to add another character to his skits. He said, “Before I relocated to Nigeria, I used to portray two characters – Mama Ojo and her son, Ojo. That was after I dropped the Papa Ojo character. However, my fans started requesting to see Papa Ojo. Then, I told myself that I am more comfortable in Nigeria and I have the space. Now, I am portraying three characters – Papa Ojo, Mama Ojo and Ojo.

“My fans are even asking me to add one more character but they don’t know that it is actually very stressful to portray different characters, especially when one’s content is very long. My contents are very long and they last up to 20 minutes at times.”
