Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro says his team deserved to win the match against the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, but that they were unlucky.

The Eagles played out a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea despite creating several chances and missing goals opportunities.

Speaking at a post-press conference, Peseiro said he and his team had hoped to win the match as they did everything to win.

He said the Eagles were better than their opponents, but were simply unlucky, saying he was not happy with the result.

He said: “We hoped to win this match, and we did everything to win. Our team was better than that of Equatorial Guinea, but we lacked luck.

“I am not happy. I deserved to win; this draw doesn’t suit us. Our team created a lot of chances, but we didn’t score,” Peseiro said.

Although the Super Eagles dominated in the first 30 minutes of the game, it was their opponents that first found the back of the net via a strike by Iban Salvador in the 36th minute.

CAF African Player of the year and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen eqaulised for Nigeria two minutes later.  But the stalemate remained until half time.

Nigeria mounted offensives many times in the second half but wasted many chances of doubling their number of goals.

One of the most remarkable missed scoring opportunities came in the 75th minute when Osimhen had only the Equatorial Guinean keeper, Jesus Owono to contend with. His shot simply went by the side of the goal post.

Nigeria’s next match will be face hosts, Cote D’Ivoire on Thursday.
