VIDEO: Why NASS is not buying locally-made cars for lawmakers

Must Read

The spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, has disclosed why the National Assembly is deciding against procuring Locally-made vehicles for lawmakers.

According to Rotimi, during an interview with Channels TV on Friday, provisions for these vehicles were made by previous lawmakers.

Rotimi continued saying the uproar on social media was because current lawmakers were transparent about it.

He, however, did not confirm if lawmakers will shelve the idea but noted that since transparency has triggered a public conversation, change may come.

Rotimi said, “This matter of vehicles broke on social media on a Sunday morning before 2 p.m. We had a statement out because we are interested in being as transparent as possible.

“You know very well that the brand of these vehicles is Toyota Prados.

“Look, if I were in the room when this decision was made, of course, I’d make a case for why Nigerian-made vehicles should be bought.

“In the preceding year, in the resumption of a new assembly, most of these procurements are provisioned for.”
