Miva Open University has held a masterclass session with Sim Shagaya, Chancellor of the University and Founder and Group CEO of the uLesson Group.

According to a statement on Thursday, the event took place on February 3, 2024, at the university’s Abuja campus.

The masterclass, available to both Miva students and the public, provided valuable insights and practical advice on entrepreneurship, innovation, and navigating the business landscape.

Miva Masterclasses offer students the opportunity to learn from industry leaders who share their real-world expertise, directly applicable to their academic pursuits.

Shagaya emphasised cultivating a “portfolio of ideas” and actively testing them to identify potentially successful endeavours.

He emphasised the importance of carefully evaluating and matching the ideas with the entrepreneur’s skills and the capabilities of their team.

“The most successful idea generally will lie in the field or realm of the entrepreneur’s specialisation,” he stated.

He also stressed the crucial role of timing and emotional attachment in driving the execution of these ideas.

Shagaya guided aspiring entrepreneurs, emphasising the importance of adhering to regulations, such as registering their businesses and fulfilling tax obligations.

He explored various approaches to securing funding, promoting products, and fostering partnerships.

He also shared insights on mistakes he encountered during his entrepreneurial journey, emphasising valuable lessons learned.

The session also delved into his ambitious plans to transform the K–12 education system through his efforts at uLesson and Miva Open University.

He talked about how the groundbreaking uLesson class board would help in reaching this objective.

The masterclass created a dynamic atmosphere, where MIVA students, staff, and guests were able to actively participate in question and answer sessions and gain understanding of the topics discussed.

This included both those who were physically present and those who joined virtually.
