Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN) was a foremost constitutional lawyer, erudite scholar, author, and legal consultant. He was a former Minister of Education and a great friend to the late Chief F.R.A Williams. Nwabueze, I considered your manner of exit as a kind of protest to be quickly reunited with other departed great legal personalities.
I am sure you decided to embark on this journey of “no return” at this critical moment in our country as a result of the decadence in the judicial system and other segments which you can no longer withstand.
No doubt you shall have a lot of stories (not pleasant ones though) to regale with your professional colleagues and friends like Fidelis Nwadiaolo (SAN), G.O.K Ajayi (SAN), Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN), with stories of rot of unimaginable proportion you witnessed in the system before your demise, as opposed to the tradition of excellence, scholarship and erudition which the aforementioned bequeathed to the country once described as “The Giant of Africa.”
Learned Prof, do not forget to inform them that in your lifetime, a judge was slapped and rough-handled by politicians in a state reputed to be a land of honour!
Please, in your sweet reunion, tell them that before your death, our teaching hospitals and the healthcare system that used to be a thing of pride have turned to slaughter slabs.
Let legal luminaries like Chief Aka-Basorun and Chief Gani Fawehinmi be aware that people now prefer social media justice and judgments to the ones being delivered in the hallowed Chambers of the Supreme Court.
As a former Minister of Education, be kind enough to draw the attention of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Michael Okpara, Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa to the fact that able-bodied young men are no longer interested in burning the midnight oil to attain greatness, as most of them now take to cyber crime (otherwise referred to as ) as a career.
Your contributions and place in the history of Nigeria’s post-independence era cannot be obliterated. Never! Heaven has indeed gained an angel. Adieu.
