Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday said the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has the capacity to chart new course for the country.

Sanwo-Olu said this at the Lagos House, Ikeja, during the Year 2023 Eidu-L-Fitr celebration, organised by the First Family of Lagos State, with the theme: ”After Difficulty, Comes Ease”.

He said that such new course would ensure the peace, progress and prosperity of Nigeria.

According to him, the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu is a man that has the capacity and intellect to ensure a new beginning and take the country to the next level.

”We need to chart a new course, we need to chart a new beginning for our country. It is at this critical time that we are having a change in government, from one government to another, that that new course, that new task, is most important,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to continue to remain steadfast and have a positive attitude to life, as government was poised to fulfilling its promises.

The governor added that as his administration ends first tenure and began its second tenure, the rising prosperity of Lagos would remain on course.

”This government, even into the second tenure, will ensure that the Greater Lagos agenda, which will improve the quality of life, which will make life a lot more meaningful for each and everyone of you, is what we are for.

”We have programmes that we are setting up, so that your businesses will grow, life will become a lot more easy for you. Safety, security of lives and property will continue to remain one of our primary responsibilities and we will not let you down on this,” he said.

Lagos First Lady, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu charged Muslims to be peaceful, an obligation imposed by the teachings of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Sanwo-Olu said that Ramadan, a spiritual exercise taught the virtues of love, tolerance, forgiveness, brotherhood, neighbourliness, sacrifice, self-denial, piousness, and generosity, among others.

According to her, it is a period that reinforced the need for all to seek spiritual advancement and closeness to God, by stepping away from comfort zones, and not indulging in acts that are not acceptable to God.

”Ramadan also teaches selflessness and love, requiring us to think less about ourselves and more about the welfare of less privileged persons. It teaches us to reach out to the needy, to put smiles on the faces of people, and to be a source of blessing to many.

”Ramadan teaches us to emulate the sterling qualities of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Therefore, beyond Ramadan, we are expected to sustain the principles and teachings of the Holy Month, which among others impose an obligation on us to be peaceful, truthful, kind, compassionate, and always live harmoniously with people who cross our path. The Holy Prophet held these virtues in high esteem and lived His whole life around them.

”It is important for us to allow these virtues to reflect in our actions, public conduct and inter-personal relations with everyone around us, long after the Ramadan. This way, we will improve the cordial relationship that exists among the various ethnic groups and adherents of different religions in our state,” she said.
