Some suspected cultists said to be loyal to a wanted kingpin, David Gift, on Sunday, reportedly attacked and killed five people in the Odiemerenyi community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The assailants were said to be members of the dreaded Iceland cult group led by Gift, aka 2 Baba, who was said to be responsible for the killing of the  Divisional Police Officer, SP Bako Angbashin, in Odumude community, Ahoada East LGA in September 2023.

On the latest killing, a native of the community told our reporter that the suspected cultists invaded the community around 1 a.m. on Sunday and killed two of his brothers and another person in his compound.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that five persons were killed in the community.

According to the source, the cultists also demanded the release of some chiefs in the custody of the police before they would cease fire.

The native called on the state government and security agencies to do more to arrest the wanted cultists as they were living in fear.

He said, “We were all in the room around 1.02 a.m. on Sunday when we heard footsteps and dogs started backing.

“One of my younger brothers came out and shouted who are those people. They replied that they had come to kill everybody.

“So my younger brother was trying to plead with them, they shot him, passed two doors in my house and shot my two other brothers. ”

He added, “They went to another compound, shot another person and went into the village and shot my family member. So five persons were killed. That was what happened.

“We are tired of crying about what is happening. It is like the government doesn’t know what to do. Let the government put more effort and help and set us free from these people because we are in pain.

“One of the people they killed is called Obobula also known as Bestman. Another person is Chibogu.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to get across to the Divisional Police Officer and give our correspondent feedback.
