Sha’Carri Richardson of the United State of America (USA) has stormed to gold in the Women’s 100m final at the World Athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Richardson ran a time of 10.65 seconds to defeat Shericka Jackson of Jamaica who came second in a time of 10.72 seconds.
Former champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, ran a time of 10.77 seconds to come third in the race.
There was a scare for Richardson in the semi-final, where she came third in a time of 10.84 seconds. She took off late and had to struggle to qualify for the final.
All eyes were on Jackson and Fraser-Pryce as they were old horses in the game, but the American, running in lane nine outwitted them all to strike gold.
In doing so, she set a championship record and the fastest time in women’s 100m this year.
