The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that Ekeakita Hector Chinem, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Youth Congress in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State was arrested and not abducted by men in uniform as was earlier speculated.

There were speculations earlier in the day that Chinem was abducted by men in Khaki Police uniform.

Some eyewitnesses claim Chinem was bundled into a white Hilux vehicle at Promise Fast food Restaurant, opposite Abua junction, in Port Harcourt by some men in police uniform and whisked away.

Chinem is a leading crusader against cultism in his community and his alleged abduction had generated fear among the people in the area.

Indeed, the Concerned Youth of Ekpeye had in a statement earlier on Friday asked Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu and Divisional Police Officer of (DPO) of Ahoada Police Division to ensure unconditional release of the Spokesperson of Youths Igbu Akoh kingdom.

But Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a telephone conversation that Chinem was arrested and not abducted by the police.

But she did not give details whether the youth leader was arrested by operatives from the state command or from outside the state.

She did not also state why the youth leader was arrested in a commando style by police operatives.

Ahoada-East local government area has gained notoriety for criminality following the activities of cult gangs, notably the Iceland Cult gang led by wanted Gift David Okpara alias 2 Baba over the murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer DPO of the area.

The Police officer was brutally murdered by suspected Gift Okpara and his group in Odiemerenyi community in Ahoad-East.

CP Tunji Rilwan Disu the new Commissioner of Police Rivers State visited the Area Command on assumption duty, pledging that the arrest of 2Baba and his gang members will be one of his priorities.
