Rivers: Police raid camps of 3 cult-gang ‘Generals’, rescue kidnap victim

The Rivers Police Command has declared manhunt for three so called ‘Generals’ of cult gangs whose camps were recently raided by its operatives in Ahoada East and West Local Government Area of the State.

Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi announced this while giving update on the recent operations of the Command at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.

He said the cult gang generals escaped during recent raids on their hideouts by the police.

Specifically, CP Nwoyi said operatives of Ahoada/Akinima Divisional Police, on Thursday, June 29, at about 10am raided the camp of one “General Danger”, in Ebrass Community, Ahoada West local government area.

He said the operatives also raided the camp of one “General 2baba” at Odiemude community in Ahoada East, and “General Odiereke” in Owube Community in Ahoada West Local Government Area.

According to him, the so-called ‘Generals’ of cult gangs escaped across the River.

But he listed items recovered from their camps by the police operatives to include one locally made single barrel gun, nine empty cartridges, two motorcycles, three pumping engines, one small generator, two sewing engines, charms, and ten sheets of zinc.

The operation led by the DPO Ahoada Division was conducted in collaboration with the troops of the Nigerian Army. according to the Police Commissioner.

CP Nwoyi also disclosed to journalists that on Monday, June 26, at about 11pm a team of Policemen attached to the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre, Port Harcourt, while on routine patrol along Rumuokwuta linking Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, intercepted a white minibus which was abandoned by occupants who took to their heels when they were stopped.

One locally made pistol with one live ammunition, one LG plasma television, two Android phones, One Itel phone and a female handbag were recovered when the bus was searched.

In the same vein, CP Nwonyi said operatives of Rumuji Division, on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at about 5:45 am in the company of members of Emouha Vigilante Security (EMOVIS) stormed a forest by Choba Bridge along East-West Road, where one kidnapped victim was rescued.

CP Nwonyi disclosed that the victim, a female, revealed that she was kidnapped on June 26 at about 7:45pm along Salvation Ministry Road, Rumuosi Choba, Port Harcourt, while going home from her shop.

He added that while the victim’s vehicle is still missing, she has been united with members of her family.

Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the hoodlums.

The Commissioner of Police added that investigation is ongoing while encouraging members of the public to cooperate with the Police to rid crime in the society.
