Rivers estate residents fear arrest over lady’s corpse

Residents of Royale Estate off SARS Road in the Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State are living in fear following the discovery of a lifeless body of a lady in their neighbourhood.

They expressed fears of a possible mass arrest after they woke up to find the body on Saturday night.

The identity of the woman is unknown, even as the residents wondered how the body got there.

A female resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the incident, said the lady may have been killed and dumped there.

She said, “I wish that the police will do a thorough investigation and find out what happened to her.

“A young lady like this can’t just die on the road. Something would have happened.”

The development attracted residents and, many others who quickly left for fear of arrest.

“Who knows what may have happened? Let the police or the appropriate agency come and remove the body before they begin to arrest people indiscriminately,” one of them said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, could not be reached as she did not pick up calls put across to her mobile phone.

Also, she had yet to respond to a test message sent to her as of the time of filing this report on Monday afternoon.
