Revamp economy, cut waste, bishop tells Tinubu

Must Read

The Diocesan Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Lagos Mainland, Rt. Revd. Akinpelu Johnson, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his inauguration, while also urging him to revamp the economy and cut waste.

The bishop also urged the President to ensure that the nation’s refineries are working before “removing petroleum subsidy.”

The call was made in a statement on Wednesday, jointly signed by Bishop Johnson and the Synod Secretary, Revd. Canon Adesanya Asaolu.

The statement prayed God’s enablement for Tinubu to lead the country at a precarious time, when “the continued unity of the country is questioned, and the national economy and security are in dire straits.”

The church also implored the Federal Government to “urgently design and implement people-friendly policies that would bring relief, cut waste, grow the economy, and create jobs to relieve the misery in the land.”

This was following the church’s four-day deliberations at the second session of their sixth synod, May 25 to 28, where they urged the government to “muster the political will to ensure prudence, transparency, fairness, and probity in the management of the foreign exchange regime.”

On the theme of the synod, “Confirmation, Our Youth, and the Eucharist: Sustenance for the Journey Ahead,” the church declared that “Confirmation remains a tradition of the church as a solemn public confession of faith when the candidates confirm and ratify the promise made by them at baptism and rededicate themselves to God.”
