The Lagos State Government has deployed more than 100 LASTMA officers to maintain traffic, as it shuts two ramps on Third Mainland Bridge for repair.

The ramps are ramps inward Adekunle from Oworonshoki and inward Adekunle from Lagos Island.

The government said the deployment of over 100 LASTMA officers was to ensure safe, efficient and effective traffic management during the repair of the ramps.

The government assured motorists of adequate management of the diversion as over 100 Traffic Management Officers had been deployed to the alternative routes and diversion points.

Reiterating that the Third Mainland Bridge is not entirely closed as it is opened to motorists heading directly to the Victoria Island axis and from the Island towards Oworonshoki, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi in an interview earlier today with TVC affirmed the deployment of over 100 LASTMA officers stationed at the diversion routes to complement the efforts of other law enforcement agencies, adding that they would be closely monitored by the Ministry.

The Transportation Commissioner also assured that the Ministry was working with security agencies to provide safety on all the diversion routes and minimize inconvenience for motorists.

Osiyemi further explained that the repairs of the Adekunle Ramp would span for five weeks, adding that palliative work which has been done on some sections of the bridge would be continued ahead of the major repairs of the entire bridge in January 2024.

He urged citizens to obey the law enforcement officers on duty, assuring that the Ministry was very mindful of providing motorable alternate routes and would correct and adjust palliative works as required.

In a related development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa who was also at Arise TV today allays the fears of motorists on the diversion, saying all traffic management plans had been activated to ensure hitch-free traffic during the repair works.

He commended the Federal Government for giving the bridges the attention of repairs they deserved at this period, for the ultimate safety of lives and property.
