PSV appoint ex-Ajax manager Peter Bosz as head coach

Must Read

PSV Eindhoven have selected Peter Bosz as their replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Bosz, 59, was last employed as head coach at Lyon where he was fired in October.

Previously, the Dutchman enjoyed spells at Ajax — where he took the Amsterdam giants to the 2016-17 Europa League final — and German sides Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

PSV have selected Bosz to replace Van Nistelrooy, who left the Phillips Stadion at the end of a season which saw the club lift the Johan Cruyff Shield and KNVB Cup.

On the new position, Bosz said: “It’s a good feeling to be the head coach of this big club.

“I’ve felt at home since the first meeting. Both PSV and I are hungry for trophies. PSV won two prizes last season but it’s our aim to win the Eredivisie title this coming season. We will give our very best to reach our dream goal.

“I think there will be a good connection between my coaching style and the squad. PSV largely dominated Dutch football for several spells and I am looking forward to reliving that period.”

PSV director of football Earnest Stewart added: “Along with the players, the head coach is the most important person within our organization.

“That’s why we looked to fill the vacant managerial position as quickly as possible, also with an eye on the summer transfer window. Peter was our first-choice candidate, so we are pleased to have him on board.”

PSV ended the 2022-23 season two points behind champions Feyenoord, while they exited the Europa League in the knockout round play-offs to eventual winners Sevilla.

Their pre-season campaign will get under way against FC Eindhoven on July 26 before hosting Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest on July 30.
