PSG suspend Messi for travelling to Saudi Arabia

Must Read

Paris St-Germain (PSG) have suspended Argentina captain, Lionel Messi for two weeks after he travelled to Saudi Arabia without notifying the club.

The trip followed the French club’s home defeat by Lorient on Sunday, in which Messi played the full 90 minutes, the BBC reports.

The club said the Argentina superstar would not train or play for PSG during the period of his suspension.

Messi was also been fined by the club.

He had travelled because he has a role as a tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia.

According to Sky Sports, Messi is understood to have asked PSG for permission to be able to travel to the country, which he did on Sunday night, having twice postponed a scheduled commercial trip there previously due to team defeats.

Messi’s contract with PSG will expire this summer and it is doubtful if he will want a renewal or if the club will renew it.

So far, the Argentine star has scored 31 goals and contributed 34 assists in 71 games in all competitions for PSG, and won the Ligue 1 title last season.
