The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 23 suspects for alleged involvement in armed robbery, “one-chance” syndicates and rape in December.

The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, stated this while parading the suspects in Abuja on Friday.

Garba said, “From the first of December till date, the command arrested a total of nine ‘one-chance’ suspects, 12 armed robbery suspects, recovered five stolen vehicles recovered, five firearms, and 12 ammunitions.

“You will recall that on November 28, 2023, which is exactly one month today, the command arrested 11 ‘one chance’ suspects, seven suspected kidnappers and/or informants, and recovered three stolen vehicles, five firearms, 30 ammunitions, neutralised one kidnapper, and paraded a total of 43 suspects.

“On December 25, at about 11:13 pm, one Abigail Christopher and two others reported to a team of police operatives from Gwarimpa Division on stop and search duty at Third Avenue, that while on their way home from an event, some hoodlums numbering about five waylaid and robbed them of their phones and other valuables. The police operatives swung into action and followed up with the victims to the scene.

“On December 25, at about 2 am, five armed hoodlums gained access into an apartment behind a church at Lugbe extension along airport road occupied by two ladies (names withheld).

“The hoodlums gang-raped the two ladies and robbed them of their mobile phones and other valuables. In the course of an investigation, one of the robbed phones was found with John Moses who was promptly arrested.

“His arrest led to the arrest of four other suspects. They have all confessed to the crime and will be arraigned in court after the investigation.”
