Osun APC demands recall of teachers employed by Oyetola

Must Read

Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has demanded the recall of the 1,500 teachers employed by the immediate past administration of Adegboyega Oyetola, sacked by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The APC in a statement by its Acting Chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal obtained in Osogbo on Monday, said the decision by the state governor to dismiss the teachers was incorrect, insisting that the employees were sacked unjustly.

The statement read, “It is counterproductive for any government at all levels to politicize educational policy as its unintended boomerang effects would have a devastating result on the innocent pupils and students as it is the subsisting case with the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration.

“Governor Adeleke took the decision out of hatred and vindictiveness as anything that has to do with his predecessor, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, was reversed.

“Since those recruited teachers are indigenes of Osun State and were duly employed during the statutory tenure of his predecessor, Governor Adeleke has no reason not to reconsider his earlier mistake of relieving the innocent teachers of their employment.”

But while reacting, the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed said the government was aware of the vacancies in Osun schools, adding that staff auditing across the state public service had already commenced with a plan to fill up existing vacancies within the education, health, and other sub-sectors in the state.

Rasheed said Adeleke had earlier issued a directive for the collation of vacancies for teachers in the state, noting that the audit report will provide a strong foundation for the recruitment of new teachers and health workers in the state.
