Ogun police nab suspected cultists, begin manhunt for others

No fewer than two persons suspected to be members of the Alora confraternity have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command in the early hours of Tuesday in the Alapa Ile-Ise Awo Area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The duo of Lamidi Olalekan and Soetan Oluwatobiloba (male and female) were arrested by a Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the state command led by inspector Adewusi Sunday.

PUNCH Metro further learnt from a source, who did not want to be mentioned in the media for fear of victimisation, that a manhunt for several others who fled through a nearby bush when they sighted the police van approaching the area, including the suspected leader of the group, Amod Olatunde, had been launched.

Meanwhile, the Command Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the arrest and said efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the group.

“Items such as a yellow color sweeter suspected to be Alora Cult Anchor Regalia, a green hand bead with an Alora Confraternity inscription, fourteen unregistered SIM cards, laptops, a Lexus GS 350 with Registration Number LND 319 GN plastic containing dry weeds, consumed empty cans of Codeine, and others were retrieved after a search of the premises by our men.

“When our men searched the vehicle suspected to belong to the leader of group, Amod Rasaq, they found an exercise book being used by the group to mark the attendance of members since 2021.

“The suspects are currently in police custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the group, including the suspected leader,” Odutola told our correspondent on Tuesday.
