Darwin Nunez scored twice as 10-man Liverpool claimed a 2-1 victory over Newcastle at St. James Park on Sunday in q.an explosive encounter.
Newcastle opened scoring midway into the first half. Anthony Gordon made a great solo run and pulled the trigger from inside the box, beating Alisson with a low strike into the middle of the goal.
Liverpool’s woes were compounded when Virgil van Dijk was given a red card on 28 minutes into the first half.
But shockingly, it was the visitors that carried the day, with Nunez scoring twice and goalkeeper Alisson keeping Newcastle quiet as he saved seven goal-bound shots.
Liverpool drew level nine minutes to duration time, after Darwin Nunez collected a pass and without hesitation fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner.
Nunez scored his second goal three minutes into added time. Mohamed Salah laid the ball off to Nunez, who shot from close range into the left side of the goal, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.
Earlier, Miguel Almiron got to a rebound in front of goal and sent the ball towards the top right corner. However, he could not beat Alisson, who showed off his superb goalkeeping ability by pulling off a great save.
On 76th minute, Joelinton wove through the defence with ease and got into a good position in front of goal. He pulled the trigger in an effort to beat the keeper, but failed as the ball hit the left post and ricochets away.
