NSCDC arrests four suspected vandals in Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested four suspected vandals at two different communities of Riga Fada and Dan Maliki in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command,  DSC Ibrahim Abdullahi, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH on Friday night.

According to the statement, the suspects: Ayatullah Ibrahim, 29, Tasiu Aliyu, 30, Hafizu Mukhtar, 30, and Inusa Mustafa, 35, were all from different areas in Kumbotso LG.

They were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-vandalism Unit and NSCDC’s Kumbotso Division with the support of local vigilante groups and community watchdog members.

While being quizzed by investigators at the NSCDC, the suspects confessed to committing the crime. They specialised in vandalising and stealing armoured cables and electric transformer attachments, terrorising neighbourhoods of Riga Fada, Danmaliki, Gurin Gawa, Gadama, Bechi, Yan kusa and Shekar Mai daki.

The vandals, as estimated by Kano Electricity Distribution Company, had vàndalised approximately N1.5 million worth of electricity equipment in the communities listed above.

Abdullahi disclosed that at the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged in court.

The command further added, “In a related development, operatives of the armed squad unit on night patrol duty on Thursday, October 5, 2023, arrested 41 suspects at different locations in the metropolis. The suspects are now undergoing profiling in the Intelligence and Investigation Department for further possible legal actions.”
