Nigerian don bags UNESCO senior fellow award

A Nigerian development expert, educationist, poet, and former lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Noel Ihebuzor, has been appointed Senior Fellow of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation International Bureau of Education.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Director, UNESCO-IBE, Ydo Yao, and dated November 21, 2022.

According to the letter, the Senior Fellowship honorary award is conferred on a leading international authority in one of the sub-sectors of education, who has made an outstanding contribution to education and/or research, and with regular and significant involvement in UNESCO-IBE’s work.

The letter read, “It is my great pleasure to invite you to collaborate with the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (UNESCO-IBE), as a Senior Fellow.

“The Senior Fellowship position offers you an opportunity to be part of a selected group of high-level scholars, who are invited to:

  1. Collaborate with the IBE team and contribute towards achievement of one or more of its core objectives.
  2. Propose innovative solutions within UNESCO-IBE’s core mandate, to the educational challenges faced by Governments and Ministries of Education.
  3. Contribute to transforming and improving the quality and relevance of curricula, as well as learning-teaching processes and
  4. Contribute to the revision and proofreading of UNESCO-IBE knowledge products in their various
  5. Serve as instructor/trainer in curriculum related issues and capacity
  6. Participate in some UNESCO-IBE meetings and conferences assuming facilitator or moderator

“This Senior Fellowship honorary award is conferred on a leading international authority in one of the sub-sectors of education, who has made an outstanding contribution to education and/or research, and with regular and significant involvement in UNESCO- IBE’s work.

“The Fellowship is granted for a two-year term, renewable once, and is effective immediately. This honorary appointment is not a contract of employment and such honorary appointments within UNESCO-IBE will not receive any remuneration for the work undertaken in the honorary capacity. The honorary appointee may, however, undertake separate ad hoc assignments paid on consultancy basis, without any direct connection to the honorary appointment.
