Must Read

The Ondo State Government in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, Westminster Foundation for Democracy, has trained teachers and counsellors in primary and secondary schools on safeguarding school children.

Speaking at the launching of the e-learning platform on child protection and safeguarding, held in Akure, the state capital, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu, explained that the platform would enable parents, teachers, caregivers and professionals to have the required expertise in recognising, preventing and responding to child abuse and neglect.

Represented by a staff of the ministry, Mr Olufunke Asemuyiwa, the commissioner said, “The launching of the e-learning platform is just the beginning. It is up to each and every one of us to seize the opportunity and harness what it offers.”

He added, “Consequently, I implore you all to embrace this platform, engage with its contents and share it far and near and encourage your friends, colleagues and family members to do the same. Let us not relent in protecting our children as we share responsibilities in this noble cause.

“The launch of this e-learning platform is a call to action, to engage, educate and empower ourselves and others to safeguard and protect the at-risk and vulnerable children. Together, we can create a society that not only cherishes and nurtures its young ones but also actively protects them from harm.

In his remarks, the Country Director, WFD, Mr Adebowale Olorunmola, said the organisation had been working towards ensuring inclusive citizens’ participation in the issues that affect children.
