NEMA launches ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ in Abia

The National Emergency Management Agency, Owerri Operations Office, on Friday, launched a programme tagged ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ in Abia.

The exercise, which was launched in collaboration with Federal Road Safety Corps, was aimed at reducing accidents during the yuletide.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the officials of NEMA, FRSC and other critical stakeholders visited some parks in Umuahia to enlighten the drivers on how to curb road accidents.

The Director-General, NEMA, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, said it was an annual exercise to enlighten the public against traffic crashes, especially during this festive period.

Ahmed, who was represented by the Head of NEMA Owerri Operations Office, Mr Ifeanyi Nnaji, said the agency decided to embark on the programme to sensitise the public against the dangers of road accidents.

“This year’s own, we have come to talk to the drivers and the park managers to be conscious of their actions on the road, in order to forestall accidents,” he said.

The road users were sensitised on safe driving as well as given the FRSC booklets on safety tips and other traffic regulations.

The Executive Secretary, Abia State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Sunday Jackson, said the programme would curb the menace of road safety challenges and save lives.

Other key stakeholders who participated in the exercise were SEMA, the Civil Defence, State Fire Service and the Red Cross.
