NASS to train MDAs on legislative compliance

The National Assembly is organising a training workshop for heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government on the significance of legislative compliance.

The workshop according to the lead consultant, Green Mount Consulting Limited, is also aimed at pointing out to the MDAs the dangers of violating resolutions duly passed by the federal parliament.

Alhaji Mohammed Aminu, Managing partner GMCL Managing Director, Mohammed Aminu disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

Slated for November 7 and 8 will focus on the theme, “The imperative of legislative compliance in deepening democracy and enhancing good governance.”

According to Aminu, “In recent times, there has been growing concern about the non-compliance of MDAs with resolutions passed by the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives,” adding that to address the concern, ministries and agencies of government would be engaged in a constructive interface on the way forward particularly the alignment of government actions with legislative input.

In his words, “The imperative of legislative compliance can not be overstated, as it is fundamental to the democratic process and the realisation of good governance.”

Expected at the two-day event are the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbeni; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari among others.

The statement noted that the workshop would cover sundry topics, including the legal framework governing legislative compliance, the roles and responsibilities of various government entities, and case studies highlighting successful compliance initiatives.

The GMCL boss further added that through panel discussions, expert presentations, and interactive sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of legislative compliance in strengthening democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
