Nasarawa United kicked off their Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign in style, clinching a 1-0 victory against Zamfara United at the Lafia Township Stadium.
The lone goal, netted by Aminu Abubakar, jersey number 13, within the first 9 minutes of the game, positioned the hosting team for success as they aspire to return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.
In a post-match interview, the elated Technical Adviser of Nasarawa Utd FC expressed satisfaction with the triumph, conveying optimism for the team’s performance in upcoming matches and their potential return to the NPFL.
Meanwhile, Zamfara United FC’s coach, Alhassan Mohammed, acknowledged his team’s commendable effort but lamented the loss, emphasizing their focus on future matches to achieve their NPFL comeback.
The match drew the attention of football enthusiasts, including Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, and Commissioners.
Governor Sule, speaking after the match, conveyed gratitude to the state-owned team, stating, “With this, I’m optimistic that the Solid Miners are going back to the Premier League.”
He affirmed the state’s commitment to sports investment, emphasising its role in youth development and unity among the people.
“Sport brings about unity of the people,” Governor Sule remarked. “We believe that the state has many young talented individuals, and we will continue to promote and invest in sports, not just football but all kinds of sports, so that our youth can continue to excel.”
