Barr Isaac Danladi, Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, has acknowledged the challenges faced by Nasarawa United FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
He assured supporters and fans that efforts were underway to bounce back and return the club to the elite domestic football league.
Danladi made the call during an interview in a radio programme on NBS, Lafia on Monday noting that The restructuring of the club’s management is currently under discussion, and the appointment of new management members will be revealed once everything is finalised.
Highlighting the ministry’s commitment to sports development, Danladi emphasised the diversification of sporting activities in the state. With over 24 sports associations under its purview, the ministry aims to promote healthy competition and discover world champions in various disciplines.
“To support this endeavour, plans are underway to enhance sporting infrastructures by establishing state-of-the-art sports facilities in each of the three geo-political zones of the state.”
“Governor Engr Abdullahi Sule has reiterated his commitment to rewarding hard work and excellence in sports and creating a conducive environment for athletes and coaches.”
“This vision aligns with my objective to sanitise the ministry and elevate it to its rightful position, delivering on the mandate given by the governor.”
Regarding the resumption of Nasarawa United, he said the current management will be meeting to determine the date. However, clarified that open screening activities for the next football season would not be conducted. Instead, the management plans to recruit a few players to complement the existing squad and build a formidable team with fewer distractions.
Expressing gratitude to the present administration for its contributions to youth and sports development in Nasarawa State, Barr. Isaac Danladi acknowledged the substantial investments made by the governor. He emphasised that much is expected in return.
He further said the ministry is also dedicated to exploring untapped sports potential in the hinterlands of the state, while Collaborating with the Nasarawa State Football Normalisation Committee, they plan to organise the governor’s Cup Football Competition for the local and development areas of the state.
“The governor has already approved the necessary funds for this initiative, aiming to engage youth meaningfully and discourage social vices, contributing to the overall betterment of society and Nasarawa State.”
