The Lagos Waste Management Authority has disclosed that it is partnering with the C40 and G-ORBIT Enterprise on efforts to convert organic waste into biogas which is used for electricity generation.
LAWMA disclosed this on Thursday via its X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“LAWMA has partnered C40 and G-ORBIT Enterprise on a waste-to-energy feasibility study involving the conversion of organic waste, generated from markets, into biogas used for electricity,” the agency wrote.
The post quoted the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, as saying that the first phase of the study would involve the installation of a biogas plant in Ketu and Oyingbo markets.
He added that the team would submit their recommendations at the end of the two-week study before implementation.
The agency, according to the statement, also sensitised traders at Ikosi Market to the benefits of converting organic waste into valuable materials such as compost, used for farming across the country.
Meanwhile, LAWMA said it had served notices of “Intention to Seal” on some business facilities in the state for not patronising assigned PSP operators.
“Not patronising assigned PSP operators or refusal to pay waste bills is a punishable offence,” the agency said.
