The Lagos Athletics Flag Football team had a disappointing game in their final group match of the Showtime Community Cup Flag Football tournament, as they were beaten soundly by the Lagos Raptors and lost their top position in Group A.
After winning their first two games against Panthers Sports and Warriors Flag Football, the Season X finalist was expected to get another victory but the result shocked their fans who defied the rain to come out to watch as the game ended 24-6 in favour of the Raptors.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the game, TV personality and the owner of Lagos Athletics, Jimmie Akinsola, said it was a great setback for his team and shows that they have a lot to do to be ready for the regular season expected to start by August.
“It was a terrible result I must say, we are not good enough and that has shown that we need to do a lot to get to the level expected of us,” he said.
Apart from the LA result, Outlaws Athletics also defeated Lagos Mavericks 42-8 to become the only team with a 100 percent record during the group stage.
There were also wins for Titans Athletics and Warriors Flag Football against Lagos Rebels and Panthers Sports respectively.
On Sunday, April 28, Lagos Raptors will be up against Lagos Rebels while Titans Athletics will faceoff against Lagos Athletics in the elimination series at the Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos with the first game expected to start by 12.30.
