Killers of Imo cops, civilians declared wanted

The Imo State Police Command on Tuesday declared wanted the gunmen who attacked and killed some cops and civilians at the Ohii junction located on the Owerri-Orlu Road on Monday.

The spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, who confirmed the killings to our correspondent in Owerri, the state capital, on Tuesday, disclosed that the command’s arsenals had been put to use to ensure that the fleeing suspects were arrested.

He disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had tasked the Heads of the Tactical Units of the command to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of the on-the-run killers.

Okoye said, “This is a very unfortunate incident. The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemns the barbaric attack and senseless acts of violence in totality. He has deployed the command’s Tactical Team to go all out in synergy with other sister security agencies and hunt down the hoodlums responsible for the attack and killing of one police officer and two civilians along Owerri-Orlu Road on 29/1/2024.

“The CP vowed that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators were all arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

“While praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased, the CP calls on well-meaning residents of Imo State who may have any useful information that may lead to the arrest of the hoodlums responsible for the attack to kindly report at the nearest police station or via the command’s emergency line 08034773600 or 08098880197.

“Let us collaboratively work towards stamping out all forms of violent crime in the state.”

Some gunmen had on Monday opened fire at the Ohii junction which resulted in the killing of some policemen said to be on duty in the area.

Two civilians who were also hit by the stray bullets but also died on the spot.

The development caused panic in the area as traders who opened for the day’s business hurriedly shut for the day.

This is even as some Point of Sales operators in some parts of Owerri, the state capital, were robbed on Monday.

The robberies took place in parts of the metropolis such as the Rappour Hotel junction located on the Amakohia- Akwakuma Road, Amawire junction, situated on the Owerri-Okigwe Expressway and at the Christiana Junction, located in Egbu community.
