The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assented to the N250.1 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year, which gave priority to the education, infrastructure, and health sectors.
Signing the bill into law at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the governor lauded the atate House of Assembly for what he described as a thorough and speedy job.
Idris assured all stakeholders that the budget is meant to touch and better the lives of the citizenry, adding that the present administration under his watch would not relent until the yearnings and aspirations of people were met.
The governor had on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 presented the budget proposal to the state House of Assembly for the members to deliberate and make necessary adjustments if any, as stipulated by the law
Out of the total budget, the governor said N90.6 billion was earmarked for recurrent expenditure while N159.4 billion was for capital expenditure.
Idris assured residents of the state that in the 2024 budget, more priority would be accorded to education, infrastructure, and health while insisting that all other sectors of the economy would also receive desired attention towards taking the state to a higher level of development.
A statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, and made available to newsmen said while thanking the people of state for their patience, understanding and support to his administration, the governor also used the occasion to solicit for more support to all government’s policies and programmes “so that collectively, we can salvage our dear state.”
In his remark, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Muhammad-Ankwai, described the budget as a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the state.
He said the budget was a culmination of extensive consultation, deliberation and rigorous scrutiny by dedicated members of the house.
He then affirmed the commitment of the legislature to work together with the executive arm of government to hasten the development of the state.
