Kano govt to buy, sell grains at subsidised rate

Determined to put measures in place to cushion the pains of the fuel subsidy removal, the Kano State Government is set to purchase grains from the Federal Government and sell them to farmers in the 44 local government areas at affordable rates.

The state governor, Alh Abba Kabir Yusuf, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a pioneer interactive meeting with the members of the Community Re-Orientation Committee from the 44 LGAs held at the Africa House, Government House.

Yusuf said the state government was worried about the difficulties people were facing due to the high cost of transport and foodstuffs, occasioned by the subsidy removal, pledging to explore alternative ways to cushion the hardship.

The governor added that plans were underway to bring back  Kanawa buses to assist students, women, and other categories of people in need of affordable transport services.

On the proposed nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday, the governor passionately called on the labour leaders to exercise patience and halt the planned strike as government at all levels were assiduously working to fashion out modalities in reducing the sufferings of the masses as a result of the fuel price hike.

The governor informed the participants that the government had forwarded the CRC law to the House of Assembly for amendment, so as to accommodate more provisions on the functions and activities of the agency at the state and local government levels.

According to the Governor, “Kano State Government is going to work with your structure to implement our policies on revamping the education sector, involving renovation and construction of classrooms, provision of stationaries, uniforms, and feeding of primary school pupils, among others.

“As a matter of urgency, you are from today to the next one week requested to submit a comprehensive report on the immediate needs of our primary and secondary schools needing to immediate rehabilitation for prompt action,” the governor said.

Also,  he tasked the CRC members to be dedicated to their work as well as exhibit honesty, diligence, and commitment to duty, so as to achieve the goal of uplifting the education sector to greater heights.
