Kano anti-graft commission chair faults sacking

Must Read

The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has approved the sacking of the Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimingado.

Rimingado has however faulted his sacking, saying he was not given a fair hearing.

The dismissal came about two years after the state House of Assembly recommended his dismissal.

reports that he was suspended for a month in July 2021 over his alleged opposition to the posting of an accountant to the agency from the Office of the Accountant-General of the state.

The suspension, according to the state Assembly, followed a letter of complaint sent to the Assembly over the matter by the Office of the Accountant-General of the state.

The letter conveying the dismissal titled “Letter of Dismissal,” dated January 24, 2023, was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

It read, in part, “Following the resolution adopted by the Kano State House of Assembly at its setting held on Monday, July 26, 2021 (16, Zulhijja, 1442AH) calling on the state government to, with immediate effect, remove you as the executive chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission on account of some alleged offences, I wish to convey the approval of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, of your dismissal from your position as the Executive Chairman, Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, with immediate effect.

Confirming the development, Rimingado said he was served with the letter on Wednesday.

He said, “As far as I am concerned, this letter will not cause any injury to me because there is already a court judgment in that respect. The court ruled that the government cannot sack me without giving me a fair hearing in the whole saga. And up until this time that I am speaking with you, the Kano State government did not give me a fair hearing as far as this matter is concerned.

“So, all I can say is that even though I was served with a dismissal letter, I still stand by the court judgment.”

“And this development will never deter me from my political activities because the letter, to my understanding, was meant to distract me from my political activities.”
