Jide Kosoko defends President Tinubu

Veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko defends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying that it is too early for find faults in his government.

The 69-year-old stated this in an interview with Sunday Scoop.

According to him, it was unfair to compare a government yet to cross 1-month timeline to the previous one that lasted eight years.

“It is senseless if they (Nigerians) start comparing government that is less than one month with the past one. In fact, it seems so silly but I can only say that this government has started very well and I am convinced that they mean business.

“I know Tinubu as an achiever and as someone who likes to play drama. He is here to make the lives of Nigerians better” he added.

When asked if movies are targeted at creating entertainment, Kosoko said he believes that the industry does more than just entertain the people.

“In my profession, our primary objective is to monitor society. We mirror society in an attempt to see every angle and pass every necessary information and regulation. It is also part of our responsibility to see societal ills from the writer’s point of view.

“We may not be absolutely correct in how we exert some of our production but that is a diverting opinion. In most cases, there is no production that will not favour some people, while some others might feel another way about it.”

He also spoke on the need to preserve the Nigerian cultures and traditions.

“When we say we are deviating from our culture, there are many other factors that we can attribute to that, like the non promotion of our languages. This is because it is only when we promote our languages that we tend to preserve our culture.

“A lot of people are so engrossed in speaking grammar (English). There are some things we can’t use English to perfect when we are talking about culture. The kind of western democracy we are using now is still not the best for Africans. There is a way we can design our democracy out of what is available.”
