Nigeria’s  football legend has defended Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi who has become a  victim of cyberbullying  by Nigerians who are  disenchanted  with his performance in the final of the AFCON 2023.

Nigeria lost 1-2 to hosts, Ivorians in the encounter despite scoring first. The Ivorian team dominated the game and overpowered the midfield of the Super Eagles. Apparently intimidated by the harsh criticisms, Iwobi deleted most of the videos and photos on his Instagram page.

But Okocha, a prolific central midfielder for the Super Eagles in his playing days  and  an uncle  of Iwobi, censured those calling out the British-born player.

Writing on his Instagram page, Okocha stated: ‘’I pray for my country Nigeria and the people that can only hate and see nothing good in others, when effort counts for nothing, treat people the way you want them to treat you, all we have is this life is each other.

“We love you #alexanderiwobi and we keep going no matter what they say, the Lord is good all the time and we trust that his will be done in our lives amen.’
