I’ll challenge Anambra Central result in court

Must Read

The senatorial candidate for Anambra Central District on the platform of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Princess Helen Mbakwe, has stated that she will seek the cancellation of the senatorial elections in the court.

Mbakwe stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission deliberately blurred her party’s logo on the ballot papers.

She stated these in Awka, on Friday, during a press briefing while lamenting that the blurred logo caused her supporters not to vote for her party.

She insisted that the logo of the NNPP was practically non-existence.

She condemned the poor handling of the printing of the party’s logo on the ballot papers by INEC which frustrated her ambition and the bright chances she had to contribute to a better Nigeria.

She said, “I want to strongly condemn the poor presentation of my party’s logo. This act denied me the opportunity to participate in the process of serving my people.
I am talking with my lawyer and I will pray for the cancellation of the election in the senatorial district.

“NNPP’s logo was blurred and practically non-existent on the ballot papers and the part played by INEC. I am talking to my lawyers as I will be moving for a cancellation of the senatorial elections as I was completely left out of the voting processes after having campaigned vigorously.

“The details of the logo of NNPP, which is ‘Basket of Fruits’ and the party’s name NNPP were blurred on INEC ballot papers and what INEC presented does not look like the acronym of NNPP on the ballot papers.

“The NNPP’s logo on the ballot papers confused many of my supporters and they voted other parties like the Labour Party and Young Progressive Party.”

She, however, congratulated Senator Victor Umeh for being declared the winner by the INEC.

Mbakwe thanked the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone for coming out to exercise their voting rights.

“I appreciate your democratic spirit to participate in the 2023 elections. You braved it and you exercised your franchise. Again, my utmost love and appreciation to all those who voted for me, especially my Abatete people for their block votes, despite the short period that I joined the race to campaign.

“I am glad to have pulled the number of votes I did, notwithstanding the challenges of my party’s logo identification experienced by those who voted and those who intended to vote for me.

“Our logo was blurred or practically non-existent on the ballot papers, thereby confusing my voters,” she said. INEC officials never showed up till noon and thereabouts. This also disenfranchised many early voters who had trooped out to vote for me

“I am still ready to serve my people because I believe strongly in the principles of the rule of law, equity, equality, fairness and justice, hence my desire to serve my Senatorial zone. My patriotism is unflinching and my zeal to contribute to repairing my country is still alive and burning,” Mbakwe added.

She urged the supporters of NNPP as well as Nigerians to be calm while the leaders of the great party NNPP chart a course as regards the errors perpetuated by INEC against our Party NNPP.
