The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Saturday defeated South Africa 3-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ongoing Under-17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria.

The South Africans took the lead on seven minutes through Vicky Mkhawana. This woke up the Eaglets as they pushed for an equalizer.

It paid off on 34 minutes after sustained pressure from the Nigerian side, as Charles Agada equalised.

Few seconds to the break, the South Africans double their lead from a brilliant strike by Siyabonga Mabena after dribbling his way through and unleashed a bullet of a shot which beat the Nigerian goalkeeper.

The Eaglets equalised a minute after the break. Light Eke finished off after a brilliant run by Agada.

Abdullahi Abubakar gave the Nigerian side the third goal on 64 minutes. It was the first time in the game the Nigerian side took the lead and held on.

The Eaglets mounted sustained pressure on the South African as they aimed for the fourth goal, hitting the post on one occasion.
