The President of the World Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, has called for a strong health system, a resilient health workforce, and universal health coverage.

Dr. Enabulele made the call during his visit to Governor Godwin Obaseki in Edo state.

Enabulele, in a press statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday, said, he is committed to fulfilling his mandate, particularly as it concerns the advancement of global health through advocacy for health system strengthening and universal health coverage.

“I am making efforts towards promoting medical ethics, patient-centered care, reduction of violence against physicians and other health professionals, investment in the development of a resilient and motivated health workforce, and support for WMA constituent members, among others.

“I also commend the governor for his efforts in repositioning the state in areas such as civil service reforms, sports development, electricity/power generation, technology, and digital transformation,” he said.

The WMA president called on the state government to urgently attend to the existing challenges in the state’s health sector.

“I urge the state government to strengthen the health system and the motivation of the existing Human resource for health in the state. I also appeal to the Governor to implement the new hazard allowance approved for physicians and other health professionals in Nigeria,” he added.

In his response, Governor Obaseki assured the WMA President of his commitment to strengthening the state’s health system, as well as his readiness to address the demands of the Edo State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association.
