Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Prince (Engr) Ejike Itodo has described football as a game changer capable of uniting warring factions and fostering a great sense of brotherly love, unity and progress in any given society.

The Igbo- Eze North Mayor who stated this during the weekend in a remark while addressing the Admins of Igbo-Eze North Unity Football Competition during their strategic meeting at the local government pavilion in Ogrute, Enugu-Ezike, noted that football tournaments provides very good side attractions for the people to the extent that when it draws people together, attention is totally shifted to the game leaving no room for any form of restiveness among the youths or even thinking of committing crimes.

Represented by his aide, Prince Emeka Eyah, the LG boss commended those driving the unity football competition initiative and declared the full support of the LG council towards actualising the aims, dreams and aspirations of organising the tournament.

He listed various efforts the local government administration has made so far in fostering unity, peace and progress in the council area and noted that the football competition will go a long way to drive the peace process to a logical climax.

Earlier on, Facilitator of the Igbo-Eze North Unity Football competition, Rev. Fr. Cornel Obe noted that nothing compares to peace and progress in any society. The cleric said he was motivated to lead the process towards hosting the Igbo-Eze North Unity Cup following persistent efforts of other like-minded sons of Igbo-Eze North who desires a flourishing life of progress and security for the people instead of the path of destruction and violence which reared its ugly head in the past.

While soliciting the support of all and sundry and all lovers of goodwill in Igbo-Eze North, Fr. Obe said that if things works out as planned, N10m is up for grabs in the tournament where winning communities will go home with mouth watering prizes.

Another cleric, Fr. Desmond reminded all that the ultimate aim of the tournament is to achieve a lasting peace in Igbo-Eze North and also discover talents. He urged the representatives of various communities to take the message home to their intending football team members on the need to be civil and disciplined in their conducts.

Secretary of the project, Kingsley Eze urged the participation of all communities in Igbo-Eze North in the tournament through their registration, selection of five stakeholders to be honoured as well as total commitment to the entire process leading to the overall success of the tournament.
