Enugu police arrest seven suspects, vow more crackdown on criminals

Must Read

The Enugu State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on criminal activities across the state, following the recent arrest of seven suspects for armed robbery, cultism, and firearms possession.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Enugu Police Commissioner CP Kanayo Uzuegbu said the suspects included a former local government councillor for the offenses of conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and secret cultism.

“Investigations have proved that the suspects confessed to being members of the Vikings Confraternity,” Uzuegbu was quoted as saying. “One of them, Henry Agbo Ogbonna, was found to be the former Councillor of Ikiriki Ward 6 and is a member and sponsor of the secret cult group activities.”

According to the police boss, operatives arrested the suspects in November after they had “perfected plans to avenge the attack on one of their cult group members.” Six firearms, 16 live cartridges, and a snatched vehicle were recovered during the arrests.

Uzuegbu vowed that the police onslaught against criminals in the state will continue unabated.

“The unprosecuted cases shall be charged to court and the suspects prosecuted once ongoing investigations are concluded,” he affirmed.

The breakthroughs followed an earlier operation in which police arrested a robbery suspect, Ndubuisi Ugochukwu Eze Oboro, along with an accomplice. The two had allegedly dispossessed their victim of cash and phones before snatching his Toyota Camry.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Enugu Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, noted that the unprosecuted cases shall be charged to court and the suspects prosecuted once ongoing investigations are concluded.
