Ekiti nursing mother jailed for stealing N5m noodles

Must Read

The Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has sentenced a nursing mother, Yinka Akinwande, to four-year imprisonment for stealing noodles valued at N5.5m.

According to the charge, the defendant “between August 2015 and October 2019 in the Ado-Ekiti Judicial Division did under false pretence and with intent to defraud unlawfully obtained goods (noodles) valued at N5,575,540 from  one Bolanle Akarakiri, thereby committing an offence.”

The police prosecutor, Mr Samson Osobu, who said the defendant committed the offence when she was a sales representative of the complainant, called and tendered exhibits through two witnesses: the complainant and the Investigating Police Officer, John Olotu.

The defence counsel, R.A. Mohammed, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying her client was a nursing mother with a four-year-old baby.

Justice Babs Kuewumi said he put into consideration the plea for mercy by the defence counsel.

“From the evidence of the prosecution, the prosecutor has proved his case and the court finds the defendant guilty as charged. I hereby sentence the defendant to four-year custodial sentence,” he added.
