A Benin, Edo State-based widow, Madam Esther Aimie Aimhekagbon, has narrated how one Uzama Osaretin Alexander, has turned her parcel of land to a cemetery, where he allegedly buried two corpses. The sexagenarian widow who disclosed this on Thursday when she appeared before the Edo State Private Properties Protection Committee, appealed to it to help her recover the land.
She said she bought the parcel of land with her late husband’s death benefit paid to her children by NITEL, from one late Chief Reuben Ogiegor, who also died shortly after transferring the land to her.
“I bought my land measuring 50 by 100 in Egor community in 2001, only to be alerted by a neighbour that a grave was being dug in the land few years after.
“Later in the evening, I was there and witnessed, how the respondent brought in a corpse and buried the remains in the land. This happened in 2016, making it two corpses that the Respondent had buried in the land.
“He had earlier buried a woman, and, I learnt this latest one was the daughter of that woman. I know the Respondent very well, he cannot deny it,” she said.
Responding, Uzama Osaretin Alexander, did not only deny burying corpses in the petitioner’s land, he also denied having met the her before.
Chairman of the Committee, Justice Alero Edodo-Eruaga (rtd), who adjourned the case to July 8, 2024, also directed the investigative police team to visit the said land with a view to verify the petitioner’s claims.
