ECOWAS Chairman, President Bola Tinubu will dispatch a very high-powered delegation on a solidarity visit to Sierra Leone soon on an unannounced date.

Earlier today, Sierra Leone’s Defence spokesman, Col Issa Bangura, confirmed the incidence was “an attempted stare insurgency to subvert democratic rule”, literally meaning an attempted coup d’état.

Sporadic gun shots rang the air in all the military formations in Freetown, from Wilberforce, where the main armoury is domiciled, to Cockeril Army Headquarters, to Murray Town and Jui.

The main attack was at the Wilberforce armoury, where there was stiff resistance by loyalist soldiers and betrayals by some moles within the armoury.

This led to long night sporadic firings, with reinforcements and backups from the nearby Presidential guards, located where the President live and work.

The ECOWAS high-powered delegation will arrive Freetown to express solidarity to the government.

ECOWAS mission is to showcase to the international community that democracy prevails in the region, with the just concluded successful elections in Liberia, as a classical example, despite Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso still in military rule
