Dialogue with bandits a waste of time, says Shehu Sani

Must Read

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has explained why bandits terrorising in communities across the Northern part of the country cannot be persuaded to abandon their criminal ways through dialogue.

Sani, a former governorship aspirant said this in response to call by former Governor of Zamfara State Sani Yerima, that the federal government should initiate dialogue with the bandits to convince them to abandon their criminal ways.

But Sani said dialogue with the bandits will be a waste of time as has been shown by such efforts in the past.

Sani who stated this on his verified Twitter handle listed three key reasons why dialoguing with the bandits will be another waste of efforts on the part of government.

Sani said: “Dialogue with bandits will not work because of these three reasons; they are not an armed movement founded for the pursuit of any religious, ethnic or political causes, other than extortion by atrocious blackmail, abductions and cold blooded murder of innocent citizens.

“Two, they are not united under a single leadership but operates in clusters and criminal gangs;

“Three, their motivation is money. They kill and abduct for money.

“Bandits are unlike Iswap and Boko elements whose acts of abduction, terrorist attacks and slaughter of innocent citizens is done under the guise of religion. Dialogue with bandits is a waste of time. Those Governors who tried it later regretted it.”
