Cricket: How Nigeria levelled Rwanda at KwibukaT20

The Nigerian women’s senior cricket team defeated Rwanda by six wickets in the opening game of the 9th Kwibuka T20 Women’s competition on Saturday.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat at Kigali’s Gahanga Cricket Stadium.

Gisele Ishimwe led the hosts’ batting with 30 runs in 39 balls, as the Nigerian bowlers fared well to contain their opponents.

Adeshola Adekunle and Oyesande Omonkhobhio of Nigeria took two and one wickets, respectively, as they helped Rwanda to 87/7 in 20 overs.

Coach Leke Oyede’s ladies needed only 18.2 overs in the second inning to score 88 for the loss of four runs.

Salome Sunday, the team’s customary power hitter, was responsible for half of the runs scored, with 47 in 57 balls faced. She was named Player of the Match as Nigeria triumphed by six wickets.

On Sunday, Nigeria will face Botswana in the morning and Kenya later in the afternoon. Uganda is the other team in the event, which is set to conclude on Friday.
